Family dentist accused of poisoning San Diego family

San Diego, Calif.

— A family dentist in California was arrested Wednesday for allegedly poisoning their family’s son after a family member was treated for the flu, police said.

Antonio Antonio Rivera, 50, of San Diego was booked into the county jail on suspicion of poisoning a person, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

His bail was set at $50,000, sheriff’s officials said.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to a call of a child being sick with the flu Saturday at his San Diego home, which is on a hill overlooking the city, officials said in a statement.

Officers discovered the boy had a fever of 104 degrees and a cough that was severe.

The child had a respiratory illness, the statement said.

He was transported to a local hospital, where doctors determined the boy was sick with influenza.

His condition is stable and the boy is being treated at the hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

No additional details were immediately available about the boy.
