A family dentist in Rio de Janeiro says he’s proud to be the only one in the state who can diagnose a patient and have the results delivered within 24 hours.
Family dentist Andreo Simeonio says he has never seen a patient with a dental problem in his entire life and that is the biggest thing for him.
“This is the first time we have seen a case in which a patient’s tooth was lost,” Simeinio told Al Jazeera.
“It’s an emergency.
I can’t even imagine how difficult it is to treat a patient who has lost their tooth.”
He said he is hoping to see the case solved within three weeks.
Simeono is a former dental assistant at the local state-run hospital and was in the office when the patient was first diagnosed with a condition called parotid intubation (PI).
In his opinion, the diagnosis was correct.
“We were not expecting it,” he said.
“If I had known we were going to have a patient we would have tried to see him immediately, but I have not seen anything.
It’s a miracle.”
The first step to treating a patient in the hospital is to make sure the patient has a high-quality oral health assessment.
“I went to the hospital and did a complete dental assessment, and I told them I have the patient’s picture and the information I need to see if the diagnosis is correct,” he added.
The dental surgeon then confirmed the diagnosis and the patient received a CT scan.
Simesonio said the patient had a tooth that was about a quarter of an inch long and was covered with gum tissue.
“He had been chewing gum for three years.
He had not been eating,” he told Aljazeera.”
In my opinion, this is a very rare condition.
We were not sure if it was due to the chewing gum or the tooth,” Simesono added.”
A patient with PI who had lost his tooth was taken to the dental clinic and we had to wait for a few hours for him to be admitted to hospital.”
He was released within the next two days, but was again referred to the dentist for a follow-up assessment and to treat his teeth.
Simsono said that when the patients condition worsened, he had to put them on a ventilator to get them to a hospital.SIMEONIO has been working as a family dentist at the Rio de Paulo Hospital since 2014.
He said he had worked at the state-owned hospital for three and a half years and had a history of working with the poor.
“When we are in the hospitals, we have to make a living, we are not entitled to the same things as the doctors and nurses,” he explained.
“They are treated better and with dignity, so I am really happy that I am working for them.”
The quality of the work is the most important thing to me.
“But while the work may be good, he also said that it is important to be aware of the potential risks of treating patients without dental insurance.”
Sometimes, a patient will have a dental condition that affects their health,” SIMEONO said.SIMONO, who also works in the clinic, said he believes that he is one of the lucky ones, but not the only person who has worked in this area.”
People who have not worked here before don’t know about these conditions,” he pointed out.”
There is a need to educate people on how to treat patients who have PI and other problems.
It is very important for a patient to have the right information.
“The dental surgery is a vital service that has become increasingly important in Rio in recent years.
According to a report from the Public Health Foundation, about one-third of the population in Rio are at risk of having PI, and in some cases, they are left without treatment.
Simo, who is currently working in the same clinic as Simeone, said that the patients are treated with respect, but the patients need to be careful not to let their health affect their work.”
What we do is treat them with respect,” he noted.”
Before we can be able to treat them, we must make sure that the situation is normal and that they have adequate dental care.
