By CHARLES MURPHY The Associated PressThe family dentist Hayward has spent the past two years helping patients in his suburban Toronto dental practice and now is the face of the city’s new dental health system.
With no longer being able to see patients on the weekends, Hayward said he’s had to make the hard decision to go into the community and help patients.
“I’m the face that’s trying to get people to come in here to get their dental care,” Hayward told The Associated Times on Tuesday.
“It’s a tough situation.
There’s no one here who’s ready to do that.”
The Toronto dental health plan, set up by Mayor John Tory in March, aims to serve about 5,400 people, most of them from the surrounding areas.
But the city has a backlog of about 40,000 people who haven’t gotten dental care in about two years.
Many of the people who are being served by the system are in desperate need of dental care.
A total of about 3,000 Toronto residents live in the emergency room, a figure that’s about two-thirds of those in the city.
It’s a significant jump from about 1,000 in 2015.
“We’re seeing a lot of people with severe dental problems,” Haywood said.
“There are some people who can’t get any dental care at all.
They’ve got severe cavities, there’s anemia.
They’re not getting any treatment for those, and we’re seeing more people in that situation.”
Some people have had it for a year and are just dying.
Some people have been here for two years and are on their way to getting a treatment.
“It can take up to two years to get dental care, said Jennifer Peebles, director of the Ontario Centre for Dental Research and Health Research.”
It’s just going to get worse,” she said.
The city has been hit hard by rising premiums, which have increased from $10 per visit in 2016 to $25 per visit by 2019.
Some have started to use alternative payment options, like a debit card or credit card.”
Toronto has a long history of trying to find solutions to its dental problems, and the system is meant to help those who are struggling.”
We’re not going to solve all the problems in Toronto.”
Toronto has a long history of trying to find solutions to its dental problems, and the system is meant to help those who are struggling.
The program is meant as a pilot to see if it works, said Toronto City Health Commissioner Jennifer Keesmaat.
“For a while, we had a problem that was very complex.
We had to do a lot to address the root causes of the problem.
So this is a really good first step to see how it will be able to be adapted and used for other populations,” she told reporters Tuesday.
Keesma at the time said it’s still too early to know if the program will work.
The plan has also faced criticism from some who believe it will drive up premiums.
“The Scarborough Partnership is not against the Scarborough plan, but we do want to make sure that there is adequate dental care for our residents,” Peeples said.
“They’re going to have to pay more.
They are going to need it.”
Hayward said the program is working well.
“You have a group of patients who have had a very, very bad experience with the health system,” he said.
A lot of them have been in the hospital for treatment.
It is a very difficult situation.
They just don’t have a choice.
They can’t go back into the hospital.
We can’t do this.
We have to get them dental care and it’s a very hard decision for them.
“Peebles said that’s something that needs to change.”
They need to have the dental care they need. “
That’s the most important thing.
They need to have the dental care they need.
That’s what we’re doing.”
