A dentist’s office was attacked by a large group of teens who stole his patient’s car and then chased him for several blocks, before ultimately crashing it into the curb.
The incident happened in the middle of the night on Saturday, January 30, when Dr. Anthony N. Hickey and his team of doctors and dentists were returning from their office.
According to an affidavit obtained by the Houston Chronicle, an unknown group of teenagers chased Hickey for a block before crashing into the concrete curb, causing it to flip over.
When they got to the office, Hickey said he was approached by three teens who demanded money and that he hand over his patient.
Hickeys car was also stolen.
Hickey said the teens then chased after him and his patient as he was leaving the parking lot.
When he got to his vehicle, he said he found that it was smashed.
He said he had to smash it to get the keys.
Hicckeys car, along with the patients, was also destroyed in the crash.
Hickeys insurance company did not immediately return The Associated Press’ request for comment.
According a police report, Hicks car was stolen on Sunday, January 31.
A neighbor said he saw a man in a black hoodie who was later arrested.
The teen, identified as Michael L. De La Cruz, has not been arrested.
De La Cruz told police he had stolen the car because he did not want to pay for it and was waiting for someone else to do so.
Hiccks father told KHOU that he had spoken with his son the day before the incident.
Hicky said that when he left for work that morning, he saw the teen on the side of the road with a bloodied face.
“I said to my wife, ‘Where’s my kid?'”
Hickey told KHou.
“She said, ‘He’s in the car.'”
Hickey was able to stop the car and take the patient home, but the teen managed to flee.
He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
“He just needed some help,” Hickey’s father told The Associated Review.
Hickies office is now empty and the dentists face a lot of stress.
He told KHON that he has yet to be contacted by anyone about the incident and said the incident has changed his life.
“We just lost a good father, an uncle, a great son,” Hickeys father said.
“It was just a very tragic accident,” said Hickey.
“I would like to thank the police and the Houston Police Department for their quick response.
It’s going to take time for everything to settle down.”© 2018 KHOU
