Family practice dentist in Iowa suffers serious wounds after being shot

A family dentist who was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital has died.

The doctor’s wife told the Associated Press that he died of his injuries.

He was 46.

The shooting took place about 4 p.m.

Monday outside the dentist’s office in the city of Monroe, about 90 miles (145 kilometers) north of Des Moines.

The shooting happened after a dispute at the office, where the family had been waiting for a tooth extraction, the Des Moines Register reported.

An officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, police said.

The Des Moines Gazette reported that the officer has not been identified.
