On Tuesday, Donald Trump’s longtime family dentist was the latest to come under scrutiny as the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump became the first woman to serve in the White House.
Dr. Stephen J. Dubose, who has been a member of the family for nearly a quarter century, announced his retirement in a letter to patients.
The letter, which was obtained by The Washington Post, said that the family is “not part of any circus or the entertainment industry, and I’m not participating in any political campaigns.”
The letter said that Dubose is retiring after 33 years of service to the family and the public at large.
Dubos recent visits to the White Houses family dental office have included visits to Ivanka Trump’s office, a family pool, a Christmas tree, and other locations.
“I would like to thank you for your support and understanding during my recent visit to your office,” Dubose wrote.
“As I look back at this extraordinary and extraordinary journey that I have undertaken as a family dentist over the last 23 years, I will always be grateful for the opportunities to work with the people of this country, and especially President Donald J. Trump.”
“As a physician and family dentist in the medical field, I know that I am uniquely positioned to serve the President and his family, and to do so with integrity and integrity is critical to the health and well-being of our nation,” Duboses letter said.
“My retirement from the practice is not a reflection on the work I do or the work we do, but is a reflection of the unique circumstances and personal challenges that I face today,” Dubos letter continued.
“This is the beginning of a new chapter for me.
It’s been an honor to serve you and your family, which is why I am writing this letter.
I am honored to have served as your personal dental assistant and I thank you.”
Dr. Duboses office in Arlington, Va. was featured on a viral video showing Trump’s son Barron Trump’s parents kissing on a playground.
Dubois is also the family dentist at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Fla.
The Trump family dentist has received accolades for his work in the family, including being named one of the Top 20 Dentists in America by Forbes Magazine in 2018.
The Trump family has also hosted a number of events and fundraisers.
A spokesperson for Trump did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In a statement, Dr. Dubis family said, “Dr. John Dubose has dedicated his life to helping people and communities throughout the United States and around the world.
His extensive knowledge and expertise in the fields of dentistry, pediatrics, and orthopedics, and his dedication to our country, is truly a treasure to the American people.
We are very proud of his contributions to the profession and our nation.”
Trump’s daughter has also come under fire for not attending his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, where the president has held his daily security briefings since last year.
The New York Post reported in January that Dubois has spent nearly two years working at the Trump International Golf Club and Mar-A-Lago since March 2018.
The Post wrote that Duboses salary is in line with the rest of the country, but that Dubos office is only open for “a limited number of visits” each year.
It also noted that Dubosis “is the only dentist in a room of 10 people” to attend a Trump administration meeting each year, according to the Post.
